A hostname is a series of letters and/or numbers that appear as
a prefix in front of your domain, such as www.my-example.com, or
members.my-example.com. Hostnames can have entirely different settings
from the domain they are created from. For example:
http://my-example.com
could forward to
http://www.yourhost.com/~yoursite
http://members.my-example.com
could forward to
http://www.geocities.com/~yourmemberssite
How do I create a hostname?
To use the Hostnames feature your domain will need to be activated
for mydomainplus service. Then you will be able to access the Hostnames
section once you choose a domain from your list.
How do I set a web presence for a hostname?
In the Hostname section, enter a hostname such as www or members
in the Add New Hostname field that appears before your domain and
click Add. Choose the hostname you just created from the list in
the Hostnames section. Choose the web feature you wish to use from
the drop down menu that appears and click Change. Then enter the
destination website address. Web presence options for your hostnames include:
* None - Welcome Page - a "coming soon" website that
gives your domain a quick web presence while you create your permanent
site.
* IP Pointing - if you have a static IP address for your website, you can enter
it in this field.
* Standard Redirection - use this option to direct visitors to your website
by entering a URL such as http://www.my-example.com/users/~joe/index.html
* Stealth Redirection - enter your website URL here and visitors will be redirected
to your website but only your hostname will show in their browser as they move
through your site.
